submission grappling

Submission Grappling has become popular because of its effectiveness in Mixed Martial Arts. We teach an thorough mix of takedowns, chokes, strangles, joint locks, and escapes. Through the use of position and leverage, the goal of this martial art is to allow a smaller, weaker fighter to effectively defend themselves from a larger, stronger, more aggressive opponent.

In our classes, students train "No-Gi" techniques and "Free Sparring/Rolling" is done in every class. When sparring, there is no striking, allowing the students to practice the techniques they've learned in a safe environment while working at 90-100% of their ability. Emphasis is on the learning of proper techniques; these have been proven to work in grappling matches, as well as real fights and Mixed Martial Arts or "MMA" competitions. Classes are designed so that both beginners and more experienced Grappling students can start their training at any time.

Our Grappling instructor, John Hughes is an ex-Daytona Beach Police Officer with Black Belts in both Judo and Jiu Jitsu. With over 10 years experience, he is a true professional who understands how to “do” it but more importantly, how to “teach” it so that YOU understand it.
